Didn't see this coming....
This Easter Sunday will forever hold a special place in my heart.
In church that morning, my sweet niece Kenleigh leaned over and quietly handed me a connection card she had filled out all by herself. At the bottom, she had checked the box that read:
“I want to get baptized next weekend.”
She looked up at me with hope and said, “I’m ready.”
But as quickly as her excitement came, it dimmed.
She whispered, “I don’t know when I’ll be back to church again… so I probably can’t.”
The disappointment in her voice broke me.
Later that day, we walked into my childhood home—where I’ve shared so many memories over the years—and out of nowhere she asked:
“Aunt Brandi, will you baptize me in the pool?”
My heart about burst.
We sat down and talked about what baptism means—how it’s not just a moment, but a declaration of faith and a commitment to follow Jesus. She understood it. She wanted it. And with her mama’s blessing, we stepped into holy ground... right there in our backyard.
I baptized her in the pool I grew up swimming in as a little girl.
It was simple, sacred, and unforgettable.
I’ll never forget the look on her face when she came up out of the water. Radiant. Peaceful. Confident in her choice.
I’m so proud of this girl—her faith, her courage, her bold “yes” to Jesus.
Some might say it should’ve happened inside a church, by a pastor. But today was a reminder that Jesus never put limits on where or how someone can choose Him.
We honored God.
With her faith.
With her boldness.
With a moment that was fully Him.
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
—Matthew 28:19
Glory to God for the most perfect Easter.
One I’ll never forget.
A cycle breaker was born.
We served generation to generation.
What once felt like an ordinary backyard became sacred ground where heaven met earth—and God wrote a new story for our family line.
Another sweet moment came when her younger sister, just 6 years old, started asking questions about baptism.
Curiosity sparked by faith.
Seeds planted in little hearts.
I know without a doubt she’ll have her moment, too, when the time is right.
And if you’re reading this today, I hope you know—God can meet you anywhere.
It doesn’t have to be perfect or polished. It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s story.
Whether it’s in a church, a backyard pool, or in the quiet of your heart—Jesus is ready when you are.
Don’t wait for the “right” time. Say yes. Step in. He’s already there.
